Each visit has been a very good experience. Felt the Dr. and/or Nurse were well informed and was truly concerned about the issue and how best to treat condition. Always felt my concerns and questions were answered and feel great about the results I have gotten from their
treatments. – Cheryl D M
Visible leg veins, typically known as spider or varicose veins can be embarrassing and even uncomfortable. Sclerotherapy is a tried-and-true solution, which has been used safely and effectively for decades. However, in the past, the procedure was known for being quite uncomfortable, sometimes even painful, due to the traditional saline-based formula. Fortunately, today we have an excellent alternative, Asclera™, which can deliver equal or superior results, with little to no discomfort.
When you visit North Sound Dermatology Aesthetics, you will never have to question the quality of your treatment, or your provider. Our dermatologists are board-certified, and many have sub-specialized. All procedures are performed by a dermatologist, or by a Board-Certified Dermatology PA.
The actual procedure is usually completed in a matter of minutes, though treatment of multiple veins may take longer. Asclera™ is injected directly into the problematic vein or veins. It acts on the walls of the vein, triggering a reaction that causes it to seal off gradually over the next several weeks. During this time, it should become lighter in color until it is no longer visible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is sclerotherapy safe?
Like the majority of elective medical procedures, sclerotherapy is not recommended for pregnant women. Aside from this, it is safe and effective for most patients. However, before recommending sclerotherapy or any other procedure, we always perform a comprehensive evaluation and review your medical history, because your health and safety is always our highest priority.
How many appointments will I need?
Generally, a single session can be sufficient. However, depending on the size and number of veins to be treated, we may recommend additional appointments.
Is sclerotherapy appropriate for spider and varicose veins?
Yes. This treatment can be used effectively for most small and medium-sized veins. However, in some cases spider veins may be better treated with IPL. We will recommend the best solution after your initial examination.
Is sclerotherapy appropriate for facial veins?
Sclerotherapy is rarely used on the face, as modern IPL treatment is much better suited to this delicate area. Often, what look like “spider veins” on the face are actually broken capillaries, which sclerotherapy cannot treat. IPL is effective for spider veins, broken capillaries, and the general redness associated with rosacea.
How much downtime does sclerotherapy involve?
There is essentially no downtime. You will be able to resume most normal activities shortly after treatment. In fact, walking can be beneficial. However, you may be advised to avoid particularly strenuous exercise for a few days.
