Laser skin resurfacing, which is sometimes called a laser peel, is an advanced skin treatment that can help reduce the signs of aging, sun damage, and scarring. Thanks to today’s advanced technologies, laser resurfacing is more comfortable and more effective than ever with much faster healing times.
We use the Palomar Icon 1540, which is a state-of-the-art fractional laser. This type of laser varies from the old non-fractional lasers in the way that it delivers light energy. Rather than a single, intense, aggressive laser beam, this system utilizes fractionated laser energy. Although the area appears evenly and uniformly treated, in fact, only microscopic columns of skin are treated, leaving islands of untreated skin between them. This improves comfort and facilitates more rapid healing.
Laser resurfacing can be used to treat a variety of skin issues, including:
- Wrinkles and lines, particularly around the eyes, mouth and on the cheeks and forehead
- Scarring from acne, surgery or trauma
- Skin texture, complexion, pore size
- Brown spots (age spots/sun spots) on the face, neck, chest, hands and arms
- Red blood vessels on the face, neck, chest, hands and arms
Specific elements in the skin, like pigment and red blood vessels, readily absorb different wavelengths of laser light. The effect depends on the intensity and length of light exposure, as well as the wavelength of the laser light. Modern laser systems are highly adjustable, giving the practitioner precise control over the treatment. Therefore, the most important factor determining the comfort and efficacy of treatment is the skill level and knowledge of the provider.
Our licensed Master Medical Aestheticians are certified on these systems and have extensive experience using these technologies. They have earned a reputation for excellence, and are specifically known for their expertise and knowledge regarding the Palomar Icon 1540 fractional laser system that we use in our office. They are highly respected trainers for the Palomar laser systems, frequently instructing plastic surgeons and dermatologists in their proper use.
