It is always a pleasure to see Dr. Bassett and her wonderful, caring assistants. It’s like going to visit a special friend. She is so careful to listen and address all my concerns. Excellent doctor, highly intelligent, and most of all a person who really cares. – MARGUERITE S. R.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy is a gentle, non-invasive treatment which can be used to address a variety of skin issues. The device is highly adjustable, so the technician can determine the duration, intensity, and targeted tissue with precision accuracy. Naturally, the comfort of treatment, as well as the quality of the results, is highly dependent upon the skill of the provider.
At North Sound Dermatology Aesthetics, we use the advanced Palomar Icon IPL system. Our licensed Master Medical Aestheticians, Elizabeth Hagen, LCA, and Heather Dahl, LCA, are highly-respected, certified IPL and laser technicians with more than 10 years of experience with this technology. Our facility serves as a national training center for Palomar, and our providers regularly train dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and other cosmetic medical professionals about the Palomar system.
The procedure is comfortable and efficient. Topical anesthetic will be used prior to treatment if you have concerns about pain. The problematic blood vessels absorb specific wavelengths of light from the IPL, causing the veins to disappear.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many IPL treatments will I need?
The number will vary, but many patients see results after just one session.
Is IPL treatment for spider veins better than sclerotherapy?
That depends on the size and depth of the vein, as well as number of veins and other factors. We offer both treatments so that we can choose the best technology on a case-by-case basis. Generally, IPL is recommended for smaller veins, and sclerotherapy is recommended for larger ones.
Can varicose veins be treated with IPL?
No. Varicose veins are larger than spider veins, and they are often deeper beneath the skin. Varicose veins are better treated with sclerotherapy or other more invasive procedures.
Can facial spider veins be treated with IPL?
Absolutely! This is generally the best solution for red or purple spider veins, broken vessels, or excess skin redness, such as that associated with rosacea.
