My experience was great! Wendy did a wonderful job and I couldn’t be happier! I got LIPS! ~ Kimberly J. Q.
Radiesse is unique dermal filler with long-lasting results. It is a wonderful option for patients with significant volume loss, particularly in the cheek area. This is traditionally one of the more challenging areas to treat with dermal fillers, because it requires deeper injections. Less resilient fillers may not hold their shape well, or may be absorbed by the body quickly, resulting in a short term improvement only.
What makes Radiesse different?
Many products are developed for either immediate or gradual improvement. Radiesse is both. It is a volumizing filler that provides results as soon as it is injected. However, it is unique in the fact that it also serves as a scaffold beneath the skin, encouraging the development of healthy new collagen. The increased collagen production will continue for many months after the procedure, greatly extending the clinical effect. Clinical trials have shown results to last for up to two years for many people.
What to expect
The product is injected into the skin at various sites depending on the area being treated. The time needed to complete the procedure will largely depend on the amount of filler to be injected, and can vary from 30 minutes to an hour, or longer. It can be mixed with lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to make the injections near painless. Radiesse is often used in conjunction with other fillers and other cosmetic treatments for an overall younger, healthier appearance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Radiesse and other fillers like Juvederm and Restylane?
Radiesse Volumizing Filler is the only dermal filler available composed of calcium-based microspheres, and is clinically proven to stimulate the natural production of collagen, for results that may last up to 2 years. Radiesse may be a better choice in some areas that need more structured volume such as the cheekbone and jaw areas. Consulting with your provider on which injectable is right for you is the best way to achieve the results you are looking for.
Does Radiesse contain animal collagen?
No. Radiesse is a unique formula with calcium microspheres in a smooth gel base. Because it is very compatible with skin, allergy testing is not required.
How long does it last?
The average time Radiesse will last in facial applications is 12-18 months, but may last up to 2 years.
Where can Radiesse be used?
Radiesse can be used in the following areas:
- Smile lines: also called the nasolabial folds, these are the lines that run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Marionette lines: the lines that run downward from the corners of the mouth
- Corners of the mouth: also called the oral commissure, if these are turned downward it can make you look as though you’re sad or angry
- Pre-jowl: the area on either side of the chin, where skin can sag due to loss of facial volume
- Chin wrinkles: horizontal lines that can form on your chin and distract from your smile
- Cheek bones and chin area: to improve the lost volume in the cheek and chin area.
How long will the treatment take?
After an initial consultation with the provider, the treatment itself will take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of areas to be treated. We can give you a topical numbing cream to reduce any discomfort associated with the injections which needs to be applied 30 minutes prior to your appointment.
What are possible side-effects?
Possible side-effects are usually mild to moderate. These may include some mild redness and swelling which usually settles within a day or two. You may also get some tenderness or bruising in the areas treated. Make-up can be used to cover any temporary discoloration.
Will I need a skin test?
No, Radiesse Volumizing Filler is made of tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. The calcium microspheres are similar to minerals found naturally in the body so allergy testing is not required. Over time, the body absorbs the microspheres and gel, leaving behind only natural collagen.
What is the recovery time after treatment?
The treatment requires minimal downtime. Most people can return to their normal daily routines right away. We recommend that you do not schedule a filler appointment within 2 weeks of any special events such as weddings, vacations or photography.
Is there anything I should avoid?
For 14 days prior to your appointment, we recommend that you do not use any blood-thinning medications, including aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen and naproxen. This will help reduce your chances of bruising after treatment.
Please do NOT stop any blood-thinning medications that have been prescribed to you by a doctor. For the 1st 24 hours after treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, the consumption of alcoholic beverages, the use of blood-thinning medications (unless recommended by your doctor), manipulating or sleeping on the treated area, and you should also avoid extended exposure to the sun, heat or freezing conditions.
