I have been going to North Sound for years and I have such confidence in their expertise that I have recommended friends and family. Thank you North Sound. – SUSAN R. K.
Until very recently, the only option to tighten loose, sagging skin under the chin, along the jawline and jowls, as well as the neck, upper arms, abdomen and thighs, has been to have plastic surgery. This involves an surgical surgery, usually under general anesthesia, and is not without significant risk and downtime.

For the past 20 years, dermatologists have been researching and developing safe, non-surgical ways in which to tighten loose skin with little to no downtime. Over the years, it became clear that radiofrequency was going to be the best way in which to accomplish this. Radiofrequency has been used in medicine for many years, but has only been harnessed for skin tightening more recently. The first radiofrequency devices that came to market for skin tightening were not very impressive in terms of the clinical results. However, over the past few years, researchers have refined this technology to where we are now seeing significant improvement in skin tightening with little to no pain, and no downtime.
Dr. Schmidt has been following the advances in radiofrequency for skin tightening for the past 15 years, and as there are now close to 30 different radiofrequency devices on the market, all of which claim to achieve great results, it required a long process of careful research and testing many different devices until he finally found a product that he felt stood out from its competitors, the Exilis Elite™. We are seeing impressive results and are confident that we have chosen the best device on the market for non-surgical skin tightening.
Exilis Elite™ is used to treat loose, sagging skin under the chin, along the jawline (jowls), on the neck, along the inner aspect of the upper arms, as well as the abdomen (especially after pregnancy and weight loss), thighs and buttocks. However, because it is such a safe treatment, it can be used anywhere on the body.
One of the main advantages of Exilis Elite™ over its competitors is that it is not associated with the pain issues that many of these other devices have, especially Ulthera™ (Ultherapy™) and Thermage™. It is also much cheaper than Ulthera™ and Thermage™, as it does not have the very expensive consumables that these other devices have. Unlike many of these competing devices, Exilis Elite™ can be used virtually anywhere on the body, making it very versatile.
Another great advantage of this device is that it has been proven to stimulate new collagen and elastin production, which results in thicker, more elastic, younger skin, making it a true anti-aging treatment. For this reason, we recommend doing maintenance treatments every 6 months to a year, so as to continuously promote new, younger, tighter skin.
We also have a second device for treating patients who have more advanced skin looseness and sagging. This device, called ThermiTight™, also uses radiofrequency technology to achieve the desired result. Please click on Thermitight™ to learn more about this procedure. We are fortunate in that we now have multiple different devices for treating loose skin, which makes us different to many other medical aesthetics practices and spas that only have one type of device for skin tightening.
Unlike many other medical aesthetics practices and spas, all of our non-surgical skin tightening treatments are either performed by, or are directly supervised by, one of our board-certified dermatologists, board-certified dermatology nurse practitioners, board-certified dermatology PAs, or Master Medical Aestheticians.
1. On what parts of my body can Exilis Elite™ be used?
Exilis Elite™ can be used to treat loose, sagging skin under the chin, along the jawline (jowls), on the neck, along the inner aspect of the upper arms, as well as the abdomen (especially after pregnancy and weight loss), thighs and buttocks. However, because it is such a safe treatment, it can be used anywhere on the body.
2. Is it painful?
Not for the vast majority of our patients. Typically, patients describe a “warm” sensation during the treatment. Some patients may experience the heat as being “hot” and, at times, even mildly painful. However, if pain is felt at any time during the treatment, the provider will immediately remove the device from the skin and the pain will go away instantly. In other words, any pain is very short-lived. No pain medications are necessary.
3. Is any type of surgical incision needed?
No. This is a completely non-surgical procedure.
4. Is there any downtime?
No. You can go straight back to work, or to the gym, if you would like.
5. How many treatment sessions are needed and how long is each session?
Depending on the site being treated, as few as two sessions may be all that is needed. At most, you will need 4 sessions. The length of each session depends on the area being treated and will therefore vary from 10 to 40 minutes.
For anti-aging purposes, we do recommend maintenance treatments around every 6 months to a year in order to keep promoting new collagen and elastin production with resultant younger, tighter skin.
6. What is the cost?
As there are no expensive consumable costs (like you have with Ulthera™), Exilis Elite™ is one of the most affordable ways to tighten skin, and is considerably cheaper than plastic surgery. The cost of treatment will depend on the area being treated.
