This team is the best I have found and I have been to several places for my skin care. They take care of all my skin care needs, from yearly checks to treatment even an injury to my arm that was not healing correctly. After one visit I had 50% improvement and within a week the injury had new skin and looked great. The staff is caring and the Dr.’s and nursing staff are very skillful in this field of dermatology. I would not trust my care to anyone else. A huge thanks to all of you. – Patti West
Diagnosis and treatment
Age spots are usually diagnosed by a dermatologist by visual examination alone. However, some skin conditions, including certain cancers, can appear similar to age spots. Therefore, if a lesion looks suspicious, your dermatologist may request additional testing.
For pigmentation problems such as age spots, unwanted freckles and melasma, IPL therapy is usually recommended. Although the procedure is often called a photofacial, it can be used on other areas of the body, including the neck, chest, arms, hands and feet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can IPL therapy be used to treat other types of dark areas?
Yes. Many forms of pigmentation can be corrected or improved with IPL treatment, including melasma, which appears as dark patches on the cheeks, forehead, around the lips and on the neck, and is due to the interaction of estrogen and sun, and so if often seen in pregnancy, or in people taking oral contraceptives or other hormonal therapy.
Am I a good candidate?
That can only be determined after a consultation with one of our providers, who will take a thorough history from you and will examine your skin carefully, before being able to determine of IPL will work for you, or not. However, IPL can be used on most skin types.
How safe is IPL treatment?
It is very safe, but only when used by a highly-trained and very experienced operator. We are a national training center for the Palomar Icon IPL system that we use, which is an indication of the confidence the IPL manufacturer has in our level of training and expertise, and this is what sets us apart from the spas and many other practices, where these procedures are often performed by unqualified technicians. When you visit North Sound Dermatology Aesthetics, you will have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you are in a medical office and your care is in the hands of highly-trained, certified professionals.
